Talking point: Should Xbox create a dedicated portable device?

0

Valve caused a stir this week when the company announced the Steam Deck, which serves as a portable gaming PC that will cost as little as $ 349 when it arrives in December. Best of all, it can even be used as a portable Xbox if you want, as the system works like a PC and has the option to run Xbox Game Pass for PC or Cloud.

And so, it sparked a lot of discussion in the community as to whether Microsoft should have considered making a dedicated portable device for Xbox. We’re not necessarily talking about a Nintendo Switch style system, but rather an official vessel for Xbox Cloud Gaming, designed to take advantage of the service as efficiently as possible.

Xbox does not have need a portable system, of course, because Xbox Cloud Gaming now works on Android, iOS, and PC (and will be available on console soon as well), but there are specific things you could potentially do with a dedicated handheld. You can integrate an “Xbox Mini” to be able to play classic games natively. You can create a specific operating system to use Cloud Gaming in the best possible way. There is a lot of potential if Team Xbox was interested.

In the past, Microsoft was reluctant to make an Xbox handheld because it would have “meant building another team,” but thanks to Cloud Gaming, it shouldn’t require the same level of work these days. The question is, is it worth it? Would it make sense to build an Xbox handheld in 2021 and beyond? Let us know what you think below.
