Elon Musk asked a video game to help him bring humans to Mars and “make life multiplanetary.”
He suggested that the developers of Kerbal Space Program, a game that allows people to design and pilot spacecraft around a virtual solar system, might have some ideas about what SpaceX is “doing wrong.”
Mr. Musk noted that the biggest problem the company faces in its plans to colonize Mars and other planets is the high cost of bringing spacecraft to its surface.
And he asked for all the help his community could give to get people there.
The tweets came as part of a busy tweeting morning for Mr. Musk, in which he also made a number of dogecoin jokes – and helped raise the price of the cryptocurrency.
At the time of publication, the people behind the Kerbal Space Program account – managed by publisher Private Division – had not responded to Mr. Musk’s request.
The boss of SpaceX and Tesla has been showing his appreciation for the Kerbal space program for years. In a Reddit session ask me anything in 2015 he said the game was “awesome”.
KSP has also acknowledged the relationship in the past – and even asked for similar help. In 2019, when Mr. Musk expressed his excitement for the upcoming sequel, the game’s developers noted that it would be helpful if SpaceX could provide real-life examples of technologies that will be included in the game.
Mr. Musk has said repeatedly that SpaceX’s goal is to make life multiplanetary and establish habitats on the Moon. He carried out a series of works in the service of this objective, which included the construction of larger and more efficient rockets.
